Laura J. Lederer, J.D., is a Subject Matter Expert on Human Trafficking and President of Global Centurion, an anti-trafficking NGO. She is the former Senior Advisor on Human Trafficking for the U.S. Department of State from 2001 - 2009. She served as the Subject Matter Expert for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services where she developed the content for the first “SOAR to Health and Wellness” training on human trafficking for healthcare professionals. In addition, she created training and technical assistance efforts on human trafficking for HHSFamily Youth Services Bureau (FSYB). Over the past fifteen years she has worked extensively with survivors of human trafficking to document their experiences with first responders, particularly in health care. She is the primary investigator and author of a landmark study entitled, “The Health Consequences of Sex Trafficking,” published in the University of Loyola Law School Annals of Health Law, in which she interviewed over 300 domestic survivors of sex trafficking about their physical and mental health problems. This study was read into the record of the House of Representatives in 2017. She is the author of Modern Slavery: A Documentary and Reference Guide to the Development of the 21st Anti-Trafficking Movement, published in 2018 by Greenwood Publishing Company and a new bookj, Human Trafficking: Examining the Facts published by Bloomsbury Publishing in February 2024. Currently, she is at work on a book entitled, “Voices in the Wilderness,” to be published by Forefront Books in 2026.

Gwen Cassady is a survivor leader, social entrepreneur, filmmaker, educator, and internationally recognized advocate working to combat human trafficking and support vulnerable populations. Drawing from her lived experience as a survivor of child sex trafficking and adult labor trafficking, she has dedicated her career to advancing survivor-informed policy, education, prevention, and systems change.
As the founder of Managing Love and Blue Mosaic, Gwen leads initiatives focused on human trafficking prevention, survivor empowerment, homelessness, climate justice, and community development. Her work has brought together policymakers, law enforcement, educators, healthcare professionals, and survivor leaders to address the root causes of exploitation and improve outcomes for victims and survivors.
Gwen's research and advocacy emphasize the critical need for mandatory trafficking awareness training for professionals working with children and vulnerable populations. She has contributed to policy discussions at local, national, and international levels and has been recognized for her expertise on issues affecting marginalized communities.
As an award-winning documentary filmmaker and director of the feature documentary Traffikid, Gwen amplifies survivor voices and educates the public about the realities of human trafficking in the United States. Her work seeks not only to raise awareness but also to inspire meaningful action and systemic reform.
A lifelong educator and social innovator, Gwen holds a Master of Education from the University of Virginia and a Master of Liberal Arts in Global Development Practice from Harvard Extension School. Through her advocacy, storytelling, and leadership, she continues to champion a future where every individual can live free from exploitation and thrive with dignity, safety, and opportunity.
